Penile suspensory ligament abnormality

Overview:

The suspensory ligament bridges between the symphysis pubis and the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum and goes around the dorsal vein of the penis. The suspensory ligament maintains the base of the penis in front of the pubis and acts as a major point of support for the erect penis during intercourse. Penile suspensory ligament abnormalities can occur after sexual trauma from downward pressure of the erect penis. The penis can become unstable and/or deformed and erectile dysfunction may occur. On physical exam a gap may be palpated between the pubis and the penis especially with erection.
