Returned to a fantastic sex life

Nolongeracceptthis

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 50. I was also told that I could not wait and needed to have surgery as soon as possible. I elected to have the Da Vinci method of surgery as I was told that using that technique, I would stand the highest chance of regaining full continence and erectile function. Like most men, these are the two issues at the top of the list once the cancer is eradicated.

Unfortunately, I landed up needing to have a catheter for 6 weeks after surgery. Nevertheless, once the catheter was removed, I regained full continence after about 10 weeks. I was very satisfied with this, as I had watched my father never regain continence after his prostatectomy 16 years earlier.

Next, my attention turned to erectile function. Of course after my surgery, my surgeon informed me that he had saved all of my nerves and that it was just a question of time until my erectile function returned to normal. Of course, this was a complete misnomer as how could they tell you they saved all of the nerves when they cannot even see them. He started me on Viagra as soon as the catheter came out, but the months went by with no progress. I became more and more frustrated as there was no improvement, but I kept getting the same story from my surgeon.

After 9 months had gone by, I stormed in one day and said that I could no longer accept this. He then referred me to Dr Goldstein at SDSM. I wondered why he had not done this at the outset!!

I immediately made the phone call. Got to speak to Dr Goldstein who told me to come in and that I would leave a fully functioning male. Of course, this left me extremely skeptical as I had been struggling for 9 months.

I attended my appointment, went through some testing and then was given an injection into the penis. Miraculously, 10 minutes later I had a full blown erection. It was like a piece of steel. My heart was jumping for joy after not having had this experience for such a long time. I was then educated on how to administer the injection myself. It was also determined what the correct dosage for me was.

Initially, I struggled to reach orgasm through intercourse. I realized that this was almost like learning to ride a bicycle again. I needed to learn what worked for me and what did not. Through trial and error I did learn this and have returned to a “fantastic” sex life.

I would summarize it like this. The two negatives are that I cannot ejaculate and I cannot get an erection when I get turned on. However, once you get by those two issue, in many ways my sex life is way superior to a “normal” man. Once the injection takes effect, my sexual encounters can last for very long periods of time. I can experience multiple orgasms and even practice ESO (extended sexual orgasm) with ease. Of course, the woman gets a satisfying experience as a result of being able to hold the erection for an extended period. It has returned to being an important and enjoyable part of my life.
